Open source with clear, honest terms.
Fleetbase is released under AGPL-3.0. Use it freely for internal operations. If you deploy a modified version over a network, those changes must remain open source — or you need a commercial licence to keep them proprietary.
AGPL-3.0 — Open Source
Fleetbase is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. You can use, modify, and self-host it freely. The AGPL network copyleft clause means that if you deploy a modified version over a network, you must make those modifications available under AGPL-3.0 as well.
- Running Fleetbase for your own fleet or internal operations
- Self-hosted deployments with no proprietary modifications
- Open-source projects, research, and academic use
- Developers who are happy to contribute changes back to the community
- Operators who want full transparency and auditability
- Keeping modifications private while serving users over a network
- Building proprietary SaaS products without disclosing source changes
- OEM or white-label distribution with proprietary customisations
Commercial Licence
The commercial licence removes the AGPL copyleft obligation entirely. Build proprietary modifications, deploy SaaS products, and distribute customised versions of Fleetbase — all without any open-source disclosure requirement. Your IP stays yours.
- Making proprietary modifications without open-sourcing them
- Building and selling SaaS logistics products on Fleetbase
- OEM and white-label distribution to your customers
- Managed service providers offering Fleetbase to multiple clients
- Enterprises that require confidential customisations or specific licence terms
Understanding the AGPL network copyleft clause
The key distinction in AGPL-3.0 compared to other open-source licences is the network use clause. Standard GPL only requires you to share modifications if you distribute the software as a file. AGPL goes further: if you run a modified version of the software as a service that others interact with over a network, you must make your modifications available under AGPL-3.0.
Internal use
Running Fleetbase for your own organisation with no external users. No AGPL obligations. Free forever.
Network deployment with changes
Deploying a modified Fleetbase as a service to external users. AGPL requires you to publish your modifications under AGPL-3.0.
Proprietary modifications
Want to keep your changes private? A commercial licence removes all AGPL obligations and lets you build proprietary products.
